Alvin Adkins Haida jewelry artist

Alvin Adkins is a respected Haida artist.  He was born in Prince Rupert in 1959. He began creating art when very young under the guidance of renowned northern artists Robert Davidson, the late Bill Reid, and the late Freda Diesing.  His brothers are also established artists.

He primarily creates silver and gold jewelry.  His style is very recognizable, characterized by smooth, deep and wide gouging.  He also paints and carves argillite and wood expertly.  Alvin is dedicated to preserving and carrying on Haida culture.

Alvin’s pieces have been exhibited at the Museum of Northern British Columbia in Prince Rupert.  In 2010, Alvin received the British Columbia Achievement Award for First Nations Art. In 2013 he was commissioned to carve a 2” wide 18kt gold bracelet for the Vancouver Opera. To honour this achievement, he included the four main crests of the Haida: Eagle, Raven, Killer Whale and Wolf.
