The Raven brought light to the world. He placed the sun, moon and stars in the sky. The Raven at the top of the totem pole is depicted carrying the sun which is carved on his chest. Below is Bear Mother holding her human child. Above each figure is a frog, representing spiritual communication. 'Raven and the Light', and 'Bear Mother' are origin stories that are central to Northwest Coast Native culture.
