Leslie Wells was born in 1961 in White Rock BC. In 1981 he completed a silk screening course and began focusing on design work. From 1998 to 2002 he completed an apprenticeship with celebrated Haida artist, Robert Davidson. Leslie assisted Robert on a large totem pole. Leslie has also worked on a Coast Salish house post designed by Salish artist, Susan Point. While Leslie often works in wood, he is beginning to explore the field of jewellery. In February of 2008, Leslie graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts Program at the Native Education College in Vancouver, which was led by Kwak'waka'wakw/Haida artist, Dan Wallace.
