Jim Charlie (Coast Salish / Squamish)

 

Jim Charlie was born in 1967. He is a member of the Squamish Nation of the Coast Salish peoples. He descends from a long line of respected artists.  As well as carving with his relatives, he trained with Gitxsan artists and incorporated northern influences into his work.  

Jim is perfectionist who takes great pride in his work.  He carves wall panels, masks, bentwood boxes, silver jewelry, and all traditional items.  He also creates public installations.  

Jim Charlie lives a traditional lifestyle. The thunderbird and grizzly bear are his family crests. He is a master carver.
