The Spirit Bear image is a split design illustrating the bears three dimensions in a two dimensional form. The three inverted u-shapes above his head may represent potlatch rings indicating a chief that has hosted three successful potlatches. This design brings to life a high ranking spirit of the forest. The u-shapes also look similar to killer whale’s dorsal fin or fins. This may show the bear’s connection to the spirit world beneath the waves.
