This beautiful ring is carved in the formline tradition unique to the art of the Haida and other Northwest Coast Nations, characterized by continuous, flowing lines that swell and taper to define the figure. Here, the Eagle is rendered with its distinctive curved beak and powerful eye at the crown of the piece.  Its wings and body are represented by ovoids and u-shapes that catch the light as the ring moves.  The two ends spiral past one another, open at the point where they meet. Set into that opening are brilliant round diamonds, prong-set so they appear to be held gently within the Eagle's form.

Among Northwest Coast Nations, including the Haida, the Eagle holds deep meaning as a crest figure. Eagle crests are hereditary, passed down through family and clan lines. Crest art is carved into totem poles, house posts, ceremonial regalia, and jewelry to declare identity and tell stories that belong to specific families and communities.
