Flat bags also known as Nez Perce bags are traditional artworks created by Indigenous women of the plateau region which is interior of Washington state and southern BC between the Cascade and Rocky Mountains. The beadwork is accomplished without the use of a loom or a drawn pattern. These bags were originally used for gathering wild foods. Now they’re held and carried by women when they dance at powwows and other cultural gatherings.
