The Eagle is the master of the skies. He flies the highest, closest to the Creator, so is considered very sacred. He carries messages from us to the Creator. The Eagle has great distance vision. This is associated with profound discernment. Eagle feathers are used on regalia in most Indigenous ceremonies and gatherings. They are used to make fans for smudging and doctoring. Eagle down is spread by Chiefs in the peace ceremony. Eagle parts and feathers are believed to possess spiritual power.
Eagle is thought to be the brother of Raven. He is associated with power and respect, with skill in hunting and spirituality, while Raven is a trickster with many character flaws. But Raven transformed and made the world we live in. The relationship between them represents balance. Similarly with the Eagle’s wings, one represents female and the other male.
