Indigenous art by Kwak'waka'wakw artist Jimmy Joseph. 19" high not counting the stand. Hand carved and painted on all surfaces. Yellow cedar with abalone eyes.
The central part of the rattle is a Wren mask hollowed with stones inside. The Wren is a Kwak'waka'wakw spiritual figure - part man, part bird. His face looks mostly human but with a beak. There are two salmons carved on it's temples. The Wren mask has a kingfisher sitting on top. Kingfishers are admired for their agility and speed, their exceptional fishing prowess, and their territorial nature. There is a human face carved on the back of the mask. The handle is a miniature totem pole carved with an eagle and a raven.
