Native American jewelry by Tahltan artist Terrence Campbell. Tufa cast silver, turquoise, coral, mammoth ivory, hand braided leather.
This tie was created through a process called tufa casting. First the design was carved in reverse into tufa stone, a volcanic, porous stone found on the Navajo reservation. Then silver was poured into the mould. The distinctive texture of the stone which is very soft but also resistant to high heats was transfered to the silver. Tufa moulds can only be used once. This is a unique and original work of art. The turquoise are high end stones which Terrence mined himself at Lone Mountain. There is also mammoth ivory from his Tahltan territory and coral from the southwest.
