12". A huichol (Wixarika) woman charged with safeguarding the integrity of the family. A gourd bowl used for depositing energies representing the navel and heart of all.
Huichol art is taking on a whole new direction with Neikame's surreal interpretations of his culture's traditional myths. A little Salvador Dali with some Frieda Kahlo, Neikame is a breath of fresh air in a world that had been content to copy Jose Benitez for the last ten years. Self taught, Neikame not only creates yarn paintings, but has come up with his own mixed media presentation that combines yarn, beads, and acrylic paint. Neikame's paintings are filled with raw emotion. He sincerely believes that his art reflects his culture's transormation into the contemporary world. We hope that you will enjoy seeing him progress as an artist as much as we do.
