Kwak'wka'wakw artist's bio.

The sun in Kwak’waka’wakw culture is a high ranking chief, and an ancestor to some clans.  They perform a sun dance at potlatch wearing a robe covered in shimmering abalone and a large mask with rays.  The sun is celebrated for bringing warmth and light to the world.  Raven rescued the sun and put him in the sky.  Eagle and sun were the first ancestors to ‘take off their masks’ becoming the first human chiefs of their clans.
