Read about Jay Coutts.

In Northwest Coast Native art, the hummingbird is a powerful symbol of joy, transformation, and the connection between the spiritual and natural worlds.  This depiction hand carved by Jay Coutts using two carving knives is cut-out and knife finished.  Northwest coast Native ovoids, split u’s and trigons cover the hummingbirds body. It’s shown with it’s long beak gently touching a flower's centre.

In some traditions, the hummingbird is believed to be a guardian spirit, protecting people from harm and guiding them on their spiritual journeys. The hummingbird's song is seen as a sacred sound, capable of bringing peace and tranquility to the mind and soul.

The hummingbird's connection to flowers and plants also reflects the importance of nature in Northwest Coast Native culture. The hummingbird's ability to pollinate flowers is seen as a vital part of the natural cycle of life and renewal.

The hummingbird is a reminder of the beauty and wonder of the natural world and the importance of living in harmony with all living things.
