"This argillite pendant is a homage of sorts to one of the great masters. Fred Davis is no longer with us but I admired his work immensely. His work in miniatures in argillite, and boxwood and yew wood is unparalleled in my opinion, and I wanted to emulate that. I was trained by argillite carvers so it's a very special medium to me. I wanted to honour them and show some of the things I learned from them like sculpture and inlays and the ability to balance those things. The grizzly bear is a strong, powerful being. The female grizzly is well known to care for and fiercely protect her cubs. The grizzly is an admired and respected family crest. A frog emerging out of his or her mouth represents a spiritual communication - the spirit’s voice or song. The potlatch ring at the top of the bear’s head indicates a chief who has completed one potlatch.
