Native American Jewelry of the Northwest

Authentic Indigenous Jewelry from the Northwest Coast

Cheryl's Trading Post sells authentic Indigenous jewellery handmade in Canada by named Native artists from Haida, Coast Salish, Gitxsan, Tahltan, Tlingit, and Kwak'waka'wakw traditions. Every piece in this collection is unique, handcrafted in sterling silver, gold, or silver with gold overlay, often inlaid with ammolite, turquoise, diamonds, or other precious stones. Cheryl's is a Native family-owned and operated business.

For deeper context on the artists and craft behind these pieces, see our guide to the most valuable Northwest Coast jewellery styles and artists and the symbolism and stories behind Indigenous jewellery.

Richie Baker and Mathew Baker

Richie Baker (1962–2024) was a master jeweller from the Capilano Reservation in North Vancouver. He carved professionally from age 12 and created original silver and gold designs set with diamonds and other stones. We're now releasing pieces of Richie's jewellery that we had held in a bank box for years.

His brother Mathew Baker continues the family tradition. Mathew is Kwakwaka'wakw and Coast Salish, trained by his late father, Dick Baker, a master totem-carver. He takes custom orders; you can choose the size, style, materials, and crest design. Mathew’s son Liam is also creating beautiful carved jewellery.

What's in this collection

  • Northwest Coast bracelets: silver, gold, and copper cuffs engraved with crest motifs by Richie Baker, Mathew Baker, Jay Simeon, Terrence Campbell, Alvin Adkins, Andrew Williams, and others. Engraved bracelets emerged during the potlatch ban as a way to display heritage when tattoos were discouraged.
  • Pendants, earrings, rings: hand-engraved in sterling silver (92.5% pure) or 14kt and 18kt gold. Two-tone gold on silver makes the formline design pop.
  • Haida argillite jewellery: pendants and carvings in the rare black slate quarried only at Skidegate in Haida Gwaii. Only Haida artists are permitted to carve argillite. We carry work by Jay Simeon, Lionel Dexter Samuels, Calvin Bell, and Ernest Swanson.
  • Ammolite jewellery: an organic gemstone with iridescent colour found only in Kainai, Pikuni, and Siksika territory in Southern Alberta. It brings prosperity and good health. Supply is limited and depleting.
  • Fusion jewellery by Terrence Campbell: Tahltan/Tlingit designer combining Northwest Coast crest engraving with Southwestern tufa casting and high-end turquoise mined personally in Arizona.
  • Repousse and chasing: Repousse is a technique where the metal is pushed and raised from behind using specialized punches and tools. Chasing involves the opposite process, pushing the surface down to create fine detail. Together, these two methods are used to craft intricate, three-dimensional works of art.
  • Belt buckles, and accessories: bolo ties, cufflinks, tie pins, and business card holders in silver and gold.

Every piece is documented with the artist's name and Nation. We ship across Canada, the U.S., and internationally; currency switching is available for EUR, GBP, USD, AUD, CNY, HKD, JPY, and NZD. Questions about a specific piece?
