Today’s Native artists creating miniatures are continuing a tradition that goes back to time immemorial. Renowned Haida artist Charles Edenshaw created model totem poles, canoes and houses from argillite for trade with the newcomers. Bill Reid created miniature carvings of boxwood and then scaled them up to create monumental sculptures. His contemporary Fred Davis, a miniaturist used gold, silver, ivory, wood and argillite in his master creations.
