The eye socket is carved out. The body of the salmon is carved back so that the pectoral fin and the ovoid between the body and tail are raised. The back is crosshatched to represent scales.  The salmon as well as all the fins is carved from one piece of wood.  Abalone is inlayed on the eye.  The carving is painted a pastel green.  Created by Shawn Karpes who has been a professional artist all of his life.  He trained with the Hunt family at Arts of the Raven in Victoria and has worked with many of the greatest artists of the Northwest Coast.
