These boxes and chests are based on the traditional Northwest Coast Bentwood boxes. They are handmade and carved and painted with traditional Native crest designs (Haida, Kwak'waka'wakw, Coast Salish, Gitxsan). Bentwood boxes were used for storage and shipping. Boxes used to store chiefly regalia and spiritual tools were particularly well designed and decorated.
